Google and Twitter Search Add New Features
Twitter Search is going to become much more useful in the near future according to Santosh Jayaram (http://twitter.com/santojay), who recently left Google and became Twitter’s new vice president of operations. Jayaram formerly worked as a search quality operations manager while at Google, and has said that the new Twitter Search is going to be a better alternative to Google Search for people seeking content in real-time.
One of the more notable features that the new Twitter Search will include a ranking system that will actually index and rank external web pages based on how popular it is within the Twitter community. With Jayaram’s background at Google we can be sure he’ll be working on ways to deliver high quality results, and he has already mentioned that they are working on a reputation system that will assist with determining the rankings of their search results, but he’s not going into great detail about these factors and exactly how they are going to apply them.
On the other hand the Official Google Blog recently announced a new search option panel which includes a lot of highly useful features that are demonstrated in the following video:

From the look of things Google is really stepping up their usability by allowing users to filter through the high number of results that can typically be found for most search terms, and could potentially eliminate a lot of time spent researching narrow topics.
